Microsoft is including many new features in Longhorn that previously were left up to third party developers.
IDS, firewall (Advanced past XP's), antivirus techniques and more to come.
SearchSecurity.com | Microsoft to duplicate third-party security apps in Longhorn: "This isn't the first time that Microsoft has incorporated features from third-party software into its operating systems. Disk defragmentation, file undelete, compression and antivirus all started out as third-party products before Microsoft duplicated them. Security products appear to be next. "

Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine Online | Column: RSA Musings: "RSA did have something really innovative out on the show floora mock pharmacy from which you could order happiness, wisdom and intelligence pills. The pills, of course, were all from the same jar of jellybeans; no drugs were provided. But the idea was to give you experience with the new Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tags. An RFID taga tiny microchip capable of transmitting a unique serial numbercould soon permeate life's little experiences. When you obtain your prescription drugs, for example, the label on the bottle will contain the tag. This makes it easy for your pharmacy to provide refills."

Look how easy it is to make a server with 5 users secure. Now try comparing this to a Windows Web Server, with thousands of users. Of course Macs are more secure, noone wants to hack them when there aren't enough around to practice on.
Apple OS X Server is most secure system: "Of the 1 162 vulnerabilities which were identified, Microsoft stood out with over 500 while Linux was seen as more secure with 200. Fewer than 25 were attributed to Apple."

Weren't people just complaining that Microsoft released a new version way too often? Now they're complaining that Longhorn isn't due for another 2-3 years. I'm just as eager as anyone to get my hands on Longhorn, but make up your mind on what you want to critisize Microsoft about!
vnunet.com The long wait for Longhorn: "The next version of Windows, dubbed Longhorn, was originally due some time this year. That date got moved back until 2006, and now it appears to be sailing off into the distance of 2007."

This article is an example of gross misinformation. When did Mcafee (Network Associates) become the leader in intrusion detection? I've avoided their products whenever possible for the past year (some of my clients use it and I'm forced to update and use it for them) but it is a huge example of the por quality of Antivirus software lately (don't get me started on Norton, but they have a much better track record than Mcafee).

Windows XP Reloaded. Coming soon to a desktop near you. Or is it? Many sources still don't believe that it will actually exist.
