Sharky Extreme's ATI Radeon 9800XT Review
Ah, the heated debate over ATI/Nvidia. Everything was fine until Nvidia started tweaking their drivers, seemingly for the sole purpose of getting better benchmark scores. My personal stance was that Nvidia was the leader in card performance, but now and leaning towards ATI. Granted, there are a million opinions on the net about which companies card is better (this played into why I chose Sharky for the review of the 9800XT, and not the other major review sites), but truthfully, it depends on when you want to buy the card.
If you're buying a highend graphics card now or within the near future, I stand behind ATI. Nvidia promises new drivers that clear up all the confusion and unclarity that they have created with their latest versions, but until that actually happens, I have serious trouble recommending them. I wish someone would get ahold of the Detonator 50 drivers that everyone is talking about, yet at the same time, I can't help but feel a little cheated by what they've been doing. They have been and still are the market leader, why do they need to stoop to tactics like this to try to keep that position? It's one thing if they can't match the performance of ATI right now, no biggie, drop the price a couple dollars and get back to the drawing board until you can beat them. If anything, the public should like this idea, as it brings Nvidia's price down, and makes ATI follow to keep up. But putting out a shoddy product has never been a good idea in the long run.
Waiting for the NV38's and Detonator 50 drivers....
