Tom's Hardware Guide Columns: The Intel v. AMD Performance War: You Lose - Introduction The writer here raised a good point. AMD is relying on us to wait for 64 bit programs for their CPU to be better than Intel. It's great that they're pushing the limits and making it possible for companies that want to make next generation programs available to the public, but from a profitability standpoint (the standpoint all good companies operate from), there is little reason to upgrade their programs right now, which leaves little reason for companies to upgrade to the newest pipelines. From the looks of it, 64 bit architectures wont kick in for some time, even with the release of Windows XP 64 next spring. We all just dished out a bunch of money on XP, some of us just paid a lot more money for Windows Server 2003, who wants to upgrade both hardware and software this soon? Ok, let me put that another way, who has the money to upgrade their hardware and software this soon?
